SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING PIPE (STICK) (BACKING & OPEN ROOT)

This advanced welding course is designed to provide participants with instruction on welding piping systems using the shielded metal arc process. The course provides instruction in both roll welding, and fixed position welding on carbon steel pipe. This course provides training in either uphill, or downhill welding. The participant is guided through the various welding positions, beginning with the easiest, and working to the more advanced procedures as skill and confidence are developed.
(10% theory and 90% hands-on instruction)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After completion of the course the student should be able to:
1. Prepare pipe for welding.
2. Weld in all positions.
3. Qualify a test weld in accordance with a national code or specification.

TARGET GROUP: Previously Experienced Welders
TOTAL HOURS: 80 Hours (open root), 40 Hours (chill or backing ring)
CLASS SIZE: 6 Maximum
PREREQUISITES: To achieve full benefit of this course the student must be able to weld both fillet and groove welds on plate in all welding positions. The participant should be familiar with the following electrodes: 6010, 6011, and 7018, or other low hydrogen type rods.
